Antios

The polar response of any antenna array is a complex vector sum of the polar response of the individual antennas making up the array.  Arrays of antennas are used throughout the radio world in any application where something other than an omni-directional radiation pattern is required.

Typical applications include:
• Development of high front-to-back ratio (coupled with wide area coverage) antennas in mobile services for avoidance of undue exported interference
• Design of unique broadcast service arrays to meet regulator power flux density masks
• Development of very specific radiation response devices for use in confined space and on-site applications

Traditionally there have been many rules-of-thumb – it is well known that a pair of dipoles mounted on the same boom and fed with a particular phasing arrangement will produce a response with gain in one direction and a null or a zero in the other direction.  What happens though when the rules-of-thumb run out and the network design engineer needs a specific design to meet a specific response?  The answer is Antios from ATDI.

Antios is a software system that allows elemental antennas to be specified and various combinations of these elemental antennas to be synthesised to produce an aggregate effect and a final composite polar response in three dimensions.  Once synthesised and compliant with the response requirements the antenna specification can be exported in ASCII and seamlessly into ICS Telecom and HTZ Warfare for use in further network modelling and planning.

Antios is able to:
consider up to 128 panels on the structure
provide real time adjustments of the panels with immediate recalculation of the pattern
use real antenna elements from manufacturers data
permit graphical editing of antenna elements
calculate vertical, horizontal and circularly polarised arrays
model the effect of changes in coupling
provide wizards for phase and skew settings
allow compensation for zeros in patterns
display patterns in polar or Cartesian formats
visualise patterns in 3D
calculate gain and three dimensional polar response
export 3D data direct to ICS Telecom and HtZ Warfare
export 2D data to other planning tools
export ASCII 3D pattern
print reports on pattern and structure
