ICS Map Server
The Image Cartography System supports the planning tools by facilitating the setting up of cartographic data. The tools use three principal data sets - three-dimensional terrain models, clutter files of buildings and vegetation and a background map image to which the planning can be related. A fourth layer is used in the case of cellular or trunked systems to express traffic demand on the ground. DEM DEM's (Digital Elevation Model's) can be imported, exported, fabricated and manipulated. 3D DEM: Created by interpolating contour lines extracted from topographic maps Bald Earth DEM: Provides accurate statement of the ground heights across an area Canopy DEM: Shows the aggregate elevation of vegetation and large structures, such as motorway over-passes and suburban rooftops which can interfere with radio signal propagation. 3D Building DEM: Heights and dimensions of structures (available with rooftop detail). Vectors ICS Map Server can create and display vector information over the actual cartographic data. This can be used to highlight information or specific areas. The polygon outlines of buildings are also essential for many radio propagation models. Such vector information makes it possible to match addresses to rooftops and extract addresses from the different layers. Raster Imaging ICS Map Server manipulates 256 colour raster images produced by a colour scanner or imported from other sources when available. The resulting image can be exported to various image formats, these formats include .tiff, .tga and .bmp which can then be used with other network planning applications. The processed images are used as GIS (Geographic Information System) support or for the generation of other cartographic layers. Ground Occupancy Layer This optional layer, sometimes called the 'Clutter' layer, contains information on the terrain morphology, such as structures, roads and forestry. This layer is often used in VHF and UHF propagation models and for expressing user traffic demand density by area. ICS Map Server allows this data to be created from other cartographic layers such as vector or raster images or from user specific data.
